It doesn’t really matter who actually said this first (and I really DOUBT it was Winston Churchill) but it goes like this: “The best arguement against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter.” Are our decisions always rational? No. Are we always armed with the facts? No. Are we primarily motivated by self-interest? Yes! Therefore we should be governed by a small group of elites who make all our decisions FOR us? I sure hope not! For one thing, the people who compose the “ruling elite class” are just as human as we are. They TOO are motivated by self-interest. They TOO lack all the relevent facts. What then? What are we to DO?! How the hell can we govern ourselves?! Here’s the best answer I can give at this time: Although all our systems of government are flawed (becuase WE ourselves are flawed), all we can do is try. “Little People”??? I hoped this video would insult the ego. I wanted you to feel small. I hoped it would help us realize that we are not as significant as we would WISH to believe. Stewart Island? Yes, we CAN all fit on one small island. We are puny. But we hate to admit that we are so puny. IF WE CAN GET EGO UNDER CONTROL (to some degree) we will make better decisions; we will be better citizens, better families, better people; we will gain more PERSONAL FREEDOM. What’s the first step? No one can say “no” to his own ego. But it would be wise to recognize it for what it is, to admit that it is a very powerful force. I think that would …
